New sailing destinations for 2026

Hello dear friends of HS-Segelreisen,

We have once again expanded our range of sailing trips with the expedition yacht POLARIS, as our esteemed skipper colleague Clemens Stecher will no longer be sailing his Ocean Life trips with our SY POLARIS from 2026, but with his own yacht. We would like to thank him for his cooperation over the past few years and wish him all the best.

In addition to the previous dream destinations such as Ireland, Scotland and Norway, HS-Segelreisen will now be offering additional destinations such as St Kilda, the Faroe Islands and round trips around the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland Islands in 2026. We hope to be able to offer you the most attractive and varied programme possible and look forward to receiving your booking or enquiry.

Polaris logbook – leg 1: Edinburgh → Arbroath (57 nm)

Good morning from Arbroath!

Yesterday was our first leg: 57 nautical miles from Edinburgh to Arbroath – and it was a tough one. The real wind was a steady 25-30 knots (6 Beaufort), and a strong wave of 3-4 metres was building up outside. The current was so strong in places that we had to use the motor to help us round the cape safely, despite having good sails.

The trade fair is over. Just like last year, we had our own stand in Hall 13 again in 2025. And lo and behold, once you’ve done it before, the effort is much more manageable.

After our arrival on Friday, the stand was razzfazz set up and we moved into our holiday flat in Ratingen. We finally got started on Saturday. First of all, we would like to wish you all a healthy and successful New Year 2025. We hope you have all had a good start and that you have not yet discarded all your good intentions :-).

The next morning in Bellsund greets us with plenty of sunshine. And the temperatures have also become much milder. But there is little or no wind today. But after the exhausting hours and days of the crossing, that’s not a bad thing at all and so we enjoy the unaccustomed warmth and can even sit in the cockpit in our shorts as we continue our journey. The morning after our night at anchor in Hornsund is uncomfortable. At least on deck, because the wind is blowing noticeably from the south-west and rain and sleet are falling from the low-hanging clouds.
